Food standards

Many thanks for your email regarding the standard of food in the United Kingdom.  It is a very important subject to me so I understand and share your concerns about maintaining our high standards and also the concerns that some people have about products from abroad – exemplified by chlorinated chicken for the United States.

In response to these concerns I have received a letter from Rt Hon Liz Truss MP, Secretary of State for International Trade and Rt Hon George Eustice MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.  I have attached a copy below for your interest.

I know that some people were concerned about a recent vote in the House of Commons which was portrayed as weakening of food standards.  It wasn’t.  I hope this letter and the fact that all previous law relating to food standards while we were in the European Union has been adopted in to British law reassures you.

With kind regards.
